ARCHITECTURE DESIGN II
ARC60308 MARCH 2022 INTAKE
SEMESTER 2 MODULE
The ideas and techniques of analysis, abstraction, and synthesis in design thinking are presented in this module and are applicable to various design areas, such as architecture and construction. The studio's main focus is "User and Context," which looks at how users interact with their surroundings naturally. In this studio, students will work through a variety of studio-based exercises, first investigating architectural spaces and construction through precedent research, then examining form and space through architectural conceptualization. The last step involves having students create a modest freestanding building that relates to the site setting and satisfies user needs.

PROJECT 1
Diagramming Architectural Principles
The methods, classifications, and norms of diagrams are something that we really look into beginning with this project. We hear about them so frequently but know so little about them. After thoroughly reviewing the case study, we capture the information we extract in the form of diagrams rather than intricate illustrations or lengthy sections.
Learning Outcome:
-
The ability to recognize architects and their works
-
The ability to translate the analysis into architectural diagrams
-
The ability to create basic architectural compositions of solids, planes, lines and frames
PROJECT 2
Structure and Body:
Materials, Anthropometric and Ergonomic Exploration [Isolation Structure]
Generating and crafting an Introspective Architectural Folly with a maximum volume of 125 cubic metres.
Learning Outcomes:
-
The ability to design a simple structure through the use of architectonics
-
The ability to demonstrate a basic level of understanding of materiality and detailing as means to capture experiential qualities of the design
PROJECT 3
Designing with Architectural Principles + Materiality + Context + User :
Tropical Wildlife Discovery Unit
For the final project, we are required to design a Tropical Wildlife Discovery Unit at Bukit Jalil Recreational Park. The term "observation unit" refers to a building near the edge or in the middle of a tropical forest used to view the species there. An area for resting, talking, and other activities should be included in this Discovery Unit's tropical rainforest discovery area (which can be enlarged from Individual Project 2). The building must have a built-up area of little more than 100 square metres and be able to comfortably house two people—you and a discovery partner—for a period of two to three days.
REFLECTION
Discipline Specific Knowledge
I was able to understand ethical issues, professional practice and put theories into practice of design thinking process after doing research and experience on this assignment given tasks.
Communication Skills
I have learned to communicate with my teammates, reaching out to them to work together.
Interpersonal Skills
I'm able to learned that being in a group is about "us" and not just "me", and listen to my teammate's opinions and make great possible work.
Thinking and Problem Solving Skills
I'm able to think critically and creatively to come up with an effective solution that corresponded to my problem.
Lifelong learning
I had learned independently and also be intellectually engaged on the work.
