BUILDING CONSTRUCTION & MATERIALS
BLD61604 MARCH 2022 INTAKE
SEMESTER 2 MODULE
This module's goal is to educate students on the fundamentals of building construction and the materials utilised in the construction of small to medium-sized structures. It focuses on gaining a grasp of the fundamental principles of building elements such as the foundation and superstructure, as well as common construction materials such as concrete, brick, wood, metal, and glass. This module will cover the production process, qualities, and common applications of each material in building. Students will be subjected to a series of continual evaluations, such as assignments and tutorial activities, to ensure that the module's goal and end are met.
TUTORIAL ACTIVITY
PROJECT 1
Famous Architect’s Building: Materials Application
This project needs us to conduct research on a specific building designed by an internationally recognised architect, focusing on the architectural and structural elements and constructions of the structure. Prior to examining the architect's history and the building's architectural objective, we put all of our material into a 2 A3-size poster that also included pertinent snapshots or photographs that may help our interpretation.
TAKANAWA GATEWAY STATION
PROJECT 2
We work in groups of 8 people to create a construction drawing set that includes detailing of building features on the superstructure such as the floor, wall, door, window, staircase, and roof based on a floor plan of a two storey terraced home that the students will get. For the sorts of building materials to be used for the two storey terraced home, students will be provided either a reinforced concrete (R.C.) frame with brick infill or timber. Each drawing must be done on a separate sheet of A3 paper. This task will also need the creation of a physical model.
