THEORIES OF ASIAN ARCHITETCURE
ARC60704 MARCH 2022 INTAKE
SEMESTER 2 MODULE
Through a systematic treatment of architectural design and construction, building science and technology, garden design, and city planning, the subject examines the history of South, Southeast, and East Asian architecture as a whole. These three key themes are sustainability, tradition, and modernity & globalisation. These themes will serve as a framework for the weekly lectures and projects, which will go from the development of a fundamental theoretical framework to the analysis of particular examples. Through research posters and oral presentations, students will gain knowledge of Asian architecture and urbanisation and interpret Asian architectural language.
TUTORIAL ACTIVITY
PROJECT 2
Our final project as a group of seven was an expanded in-depth study of Jalan Tun H.S. Lee, which we had done briefly in project 1. An analysis framework was developed, which was followed by branching out into study areas that interested us along the way, where we eventually proposed answers to the stated concerns.
PROJECT 1
This project requires us to compile sketches while studying on a predetermined street. Through site visits and internet data research, I was able to develop a thorough analysis based on observations and data of Jalan Tun H.S. Lee, which I then recorded in a sketch diary along with hand-drawn sketches of the streetscapes and intangible characteristics.
