SEMESTER 2 . 5 MODULE

The lesson introduces the components of environmental conditions and concerns. It focuses on the effects of human involvement on the environment, both good and bad, as well as the link of structures with the natural system. Students will be exposed to fundamental environmental awareness through lectures and debates. Furthermore, the module teaches students to the basic aspects of climate and their impacts on architecture, with the goal of assisting students in creating appropriate ecologically sensitive and pleasant building designs.

TUTORIAL ACTIVITY

PROJECT 2

This project requires students in groups of SIX or SEVEN are needed to complete the following tasks: To select ONE (1) interior space of roughly 10m x 6m through internet for the Lumen Method calculation of planning general lighting arrangement. To offer a brief history of the chosen structure, as well as some pertinent images. To submit the following drawings/sketches. To demonstrate the Lumen Method computations.

PROJECT 1

In this project, students were expected to create a case study on analysing daylight and thermal comfort in a modern house . Students must form groups of six and choose one of the following types of modern houses from the brief: i. corner lot of a double storey terraced house or ii. double storey semi-detached house in order to provide appropriate scale orthographic drawings of that chosen space in A2 sized board digitally. The students are then instructed to select one space each that has a problem with i. daylighting and ii. thermal comfort. Students must collect data on both concerns while also developing at least one passive design for each.
